Of course, our basic theory is that if you want to remodel because you like your house and you want to enjoy it for a while more, then go ahead and renovate. Anyway, as this report indicates, no homeowner who sells a house ever gets back every dollar spent on a major face lift for that home. 

One important note about the report: The facts and figures for Arizona focus on the Phoenix area, not Tucson. But generally speaking, they do give you some idea of what the value of your remodel will be in Southern Arizona.The report covers many different renovations from replacing windows and doors to adding a family room to major and minor remodels in bath and kitchen. 

An upscale major remodel would include replacing cabinets with custom models with built-in sliding shelves and other accessories; stone countertops with imported tile backsplash; new appliances and a high-end, under-mount sink. A midrange but still major remodel would include updating with semi-custom cabinets, adding an island, putting in laminate countertops, replacing the sink with a standard stainless steel model, and replacing appliances. One other really interesting comparison in this report is the difference between what you recover in Arizona as opposed to the national averages. "We realized that they weren't being utilized fully, so that's when we said what else can we do with these?" Aureden said.In what Aureden called a Herculean task, volunteer decided to upright the large pipes that weigh a ton and a half, and will build a round wooden bench circling the pipe. The seat back will consist of handmade tiles, all 400 square feet of it. 

The project is relying on many volunteers, young and young at heart. Day campers are hard at work on Fridays rolling out the clay, forming them into squares and scouring the woods for the right tools to create their unique designs."The idea is to have them be as creative as possible and be inspired by the nature around them," Aureden said. "The goal of the project is to connect art and nature, and strengthen the children's connection to nature." 

Skaneateles artist Barb Crosbie is overseeing the children,Need a compatible parkingassistsystem for your car? guiding through the process. However, how they create a design or texture in their tiles, and what with, is up to them.You've probably seen cellphonecases at some point. She showed them samples, but didn't provide stamps or anything they could specifically mimic her work to encourage their creativity. Some carved out shapes or designs that reflected their time at Baltimore Woods, others used found items to show people what the center has to offer as part as plant matter, she said. 

"They are decorating them using items from nature like twigs or leaves or different tools to create different designs, primary inspired by environment," Aureden said. "The kids can make whatever they want, so each one is unique. This will be a permanent installation. Every time they come back to Baltimore Woods they'll be able to say, 'See, that's my tile.'"They began to make the tiles in mid-July. The children hand roll the clay, and using molds, create 4x4-inch squares."We bought a hundred pounds of clay, and it may take more," Aureden said. 

Crosbie volunteers at the center, and approached Aureden about leading pottery classes, something she used to do in Utah when she lived there up until recently. When Aureden shared the details of this project with Crosbie, she was excited to work with the children."It's the most fun to teach children pottery because they're so inquisitive and love making things that are three-dimensional," Crosbie said. "And they are always coming up with awesome ideas that I couldn't do. I love the variety in the end." 

Crosbie will then fire the tiles in her two kilns in her Skaneateles studio Earth in Art.Meanwhile, for the actually wooden bench, volunteers have to dig holes to hold 10 posts that will form the seating's skeleton. The seating will remain by the pavilion, providing more seating for programs and camps at the center.
