Stunning landscape adds to beauty

This landscape is one of the reasons Girraween National Park was declared. It makes up part of the Wyberba district and several settler farms were incorporated into the park. The region also is known for its wildflowers, frogs, birds and outstanding walks. Its rugged higher country falls away to more sheltered, arable valleys but these are places where European settlers struggled for years to eke out a living.

It is fascinating to think how the Kambuwal people lived in this cold place. What skins they used to keep warm, what they used as fire sticks and where they spent the various seasons because the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service warns that snow or sleet falls most years.Wyberba is from the saltwater Bundjalung-Yugambeh dialect "wyburra'', meaning fire or firewood, according to the Natural Resources Department.

There also is a Wyberba Mountain, on the Gold Coast, so it suggests different Murri groups used the same or a similar word, or it was transported by settlers. We are one of the leading manufacturers of granitecountertops in ChinaIt's most likely Kambuwal country and there are bora rings and other ceremonial sites in the Ballandean and Girraween areas. It is thought a range of different groups, including the Bundjalung, met in the region for trade and marriages.

Similar to the Bunya Mountains to the north, Girraween was likely a long-used trade route, with goods, such as shells, spears, stone axes, shields and boomerangs, traded back and forth between saltwater and freshwater people.Explorer Allan Cunningham was the first European in the area and relations between Murris and settlers were relatively benign, compared with massacres at nearby places such as Allora and Tenterfield.

Squatter Robert Ramsay Mackenzie arrived in the 1840s and later Stanthorpe doctor Spencer Roberts started agitating to have land protected to preserve superb lyrebird and wombat populations.Bill, a banker, and Jennie, a CPA, had followed their daughter to North County after she attended Cal Poly and settled in Paso Robles. They purchased their cottage home built by Taylor Odenwald after looking for just one day. The new house within walking distance of downtown Paso was perfect, but the lot was in need of their creativity and vision.

The main challenge of the large corner lot was that it included a dedicated drainage easement from the development on the hills above them. This muddy clay ditch ran through the middle of the backyard to the street. They hired landscaper Marc Behymer, known for his creative outdoor living designs, to provide an aesthetic solution for the drainage channel along with a landscape scheme for the entire yard.

The streambed turned the drainage easement problem into an asset,Of all the equipment in the laundry the oilpaintingreproduction is one of the largest consumers of steam. allowing for both function and form, as the natural streambed would actually carry the winter water out to the street while it provided an attractive visual element.

After excavating and removing six inches of messy mud, Behymer installed a six inch perforated drainage pipe to route excess water flow under the streambed. On top of the pipe he layered decomposed granite and then river rock, with moss covered boulders of various sizes along the edge. A graceful arched bridge was placed over the stream to access the yard on the other side.

A second water element, a pondless waterfall, was added near the new flagstone patio to provide a soothing sound to the outdoor living room. For the waterfall, Enholm and Behymer selected one of the boulders as the fountain, drilling a hole for the pumped water to flow over the rock and then vanish into the small rock garden around it.We have become one of the worlds most recognised cheapcellphonecases brands. Beneath the rock bed, they installed a 200-gallon pondless waterfall tank that is four feet square and 12 inches deep.

Behymer created sketches for an outdoor fireplace design based on Enholms ideas, and set up mock scenarios on the planned patio for location of the structure. Local stonemason Steve Tapia built the attractive Oklahoma Stone fireplace in three weeks, using a mortarless method so the stone looks like it was stacked up. A mantle made of a large stone slab provides a spot for snacks and drinks, while the chimney allows for both gas and wood fuel.

For shade, Enholm chose to use shade sails in three colors picking up the tones of the flagstone patio. Behymer fabricated strong supports for the sails using 3-? inch oil well pipe with welded hooks for the sails.

The death of senior services

An American flag hangs from a wall in the Washoe County Cafeteria. Daily at 11 a.m., hundreds of older men and women line up below that flag for free food. Some are jovial and grateful for the sustenance; others are solemn and bitter as they pass in front of steel troughs of cold grub.

They gather the food on their trays, file onto benches and hunch over the meals. On a recent day, that meal was a single slice of sandwich meat on a single slice of bread, a scoop of potato salad, a scoop of blood-red beets, and a chocolate chip cookie. Between sips of milk and coffee, their feeble voices were barely louder than the scrape of utensils on their plastic plates in the cavernous room. Here is what they have been talking about: The decline of the agency that is keeping them alive.

Death by a thousand cuts, as Washoe County Senior Services Director Grady Tarbutton told TV stations during a recent media blitz. The 15-employee cut has been on the books since April, but wasnt widely reported until less than a week before they were set to take effect; the very day the Reno News & Review began investigating. Tarbutton directed the media focus to a nurse who travels to hundreds of seniors homes and helps keep at least 15 critical patients alive. The earcap is not only critical to professional photographers. Her job is one of the positions being cut, and some of her patients will likely die without her daily visits, she said.

But among the ranks of the elderly, death is pretty common. The news is that while the senior population expands, Washoe County has cut a critical program once used by 20 percent of its clients and by June 30, the county and state will outsource the program entirely.

We have had to cut the number of recipients in the range of 1,500 down to 700 a year, Tarbutton said of the Senior Law Project. For a suggested donation of $50 or less, the office helps with wills, affidavits of death, power of attorney, consumer disputes, social security issues, government benefits and landlord-tenant issues.

By the end of July, elimination of five more positions in the Senior Law Project will bring the county Senior Services Department staff to less than half of what it once was, even as the senior population has nearly doubled from 40,Automate patient flow and quickly track hospital assets and people using rfidtag.000 to 76,000 over the same period.

Outsourcing to non-profits is where the county jobs and services are going. Their salary and benefits packages are less than the county, Tarbutton says. To find out how much less,More than 80 standard commercial and stonemosaic exist to quickly and efficiently clean pans. just walk down the hall to where the county employees work in the Senior Law Project.

We have been advised by the union not to talk to media, said one of the employees, declining to say her name. But without further prompting, she continued to talk, saying that they had just received letters offering work at the non profit Nevada Legal Services which will be assuming the countys Senior Law Project clients.

A non-profit moving into government offices is a challenge. It is causing some headaches, Gertken said. You cant just move in. There are logistical things. You have another layer of them saying you have to talk to facilities management. You have to talk to tech services. You have to get everything approved and the county commission has to weigh in.

Its a learning process for everyone. While Nevada Legal Services has been an institution in rural areas for years, This is the first time in Nevada that one of the established legal service agencies has assumed senior services in a major county, Gertken said, adding, It is sort of new in terms of Nevada as a whole. She also worked in Las Vegas where she said the city turned its senior law program over to a new non-profit that was formed by the actual city law employees themselves. An bondcleaningsydney is a device which removes contaminants from the air.

When asked if more outsourcing is on the way, Tarbutton said, It is all going to depend on if there is someone in the community who can do the work or not.

Not everything is on the table. There are some state and federal minimum requirements. The social work program is something we have to keep. Aging and disability resource and adult day care are all services that we have to keep.

According to the Nevada Supreme Court, Access to Justice Commission report, March 11, 2013, review of Nevada Legal Services: There was a precipitous drop in cases without litigation. The loss was entirely from the Tenants Rights Center, due to the layoffs of half the TRCs staff.

Declines in grants from Congress cut the budget by more than a half-million dollars last year, and NLSs total number of contacts with clients was down by half from 2007 to 2011. Meanwhile, 66 percent of the 88,000 client contacts in the state were for housing according to the report.

And we know that there are people who [need help who] are not contacting us, says NLS directing attorney in Reno Rhea Gertken. When NLS moves into the Washoe County Senior Services building off Ninth and Sutro streets, potential new clients will be right down the hall every day at lunch. Many have never asked for legal help.

Electric mobility

Public transport is very crucial for a nation as it provides access to employment, community resou-rces, medical care and recreational opportunities. In India, the percentage of inter-city trips served by public transport is dependent on the city's population - it is 30 per cent for cities with population between 1-2 million, 42 per cent for cities with population between 2- 5 million, and 63 per cent for cities with population over 5 million. India's urban population is expected to cross 600 million by 2030. Hence, it is important for cities to have effective public transport systems. In order to improve the urban public transport infrastructure and fill gaps, an estimated investment of $30 billion will be required in the 11th Plan and about $97 billion over next 20 years.

Electric vehicles are a perfect fit in this scenario. Now that the National Electric Mobility Mission Plan 2020 has been implemented, prominent manufacturers are already planning on launching electric cars. Under this mission,Choose from the largest selection of indoortracking in the world. the government plans to invest around Rs 14,000 crore in the next eight years. Electric two-wheelers are already popular with the likes of Hero and BSA Motors having specific offerings. However, there is a need to look beyond cars and two-wheelers and introduce electric three-wheelers and buses.

Production of three-wheelers in India has doubled in the past eight years to reach approximately 8,70,000 units in 2012. This is mainly because most cities adopted CNG-based three-wheelers to reduce emission levels. On average, three-wheelers in metros have a daily run of 120 km, with an average trip length of 8 kilometers, making it suitable for an electric prototype. Electric tuktuks have been introduced in Netherlands, UK and Italy. In India, Bajaj Auto and Mahindra had launched electric three-wheelers in 2002,Choose from the largest selection of indoortracking in the world. but due to challenges with the lead-acid battery, they had combined sales of 1,500 units only. In future, it will be important to develop electric three-wheelers with robust designs and lithium ion batteries to ensure that they succeed in the market.

As for buses, since electric vehicles run shorter distances, these could be introduced on smaller routes in a city. Tata Motors and Ashok Leyland have developed CNG-electric hybrid buses which were commercially launched in Delhi during the Commonwealth Games. Such buses can be introduced as feeder buses to Metro stations and airports. In Delhi, for instance, there are 120 Metro feeder buses, which run about 100km a day. The government plans to launch feeder buses in new routes as well as other metro cities. It should explore the possibility of introducing electric buses on these routes.

The mission also proposes various other initiatives for electric mobility, like subsidies to consumers and manufacturers of electric vehicles. Steps should be taken by the state and central governments to build up the infrastructure - a budget of Rs 900 crore has been allocated towards research and development and testing infrastructure. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi is planning to set up charging stations in parking lots by 2013 end.

It is essential that a network of charging stations be developed for smooth operation of electric vehicles. Charging stations mainly require a parking spot along with the charging unit - a socket and an extension cord. In Bangalore, some malls have charging points in parking lots where vehicles can be charged at no additional cost. Most mall operators are willing to reserve space for electric vehicles and as a value-added service. However, technologically advanced recharging points are needed for high speed charging.

Implementation of smart cities would also boost the growth of electric vehicles. Since smart cities promote energy-efficient facilities with networking function for public transport and personal vehicles, they would include environmentally friendly technologies. Globally the concept of 'Mobility on Demand' is becoming popular in smart cities where a fleet of lightweight electric vehicles are placed at charging stations throughout the city and these can be used by commuters. Such niche vehicles should also be part of the Indian smart city planning.

Last mile connectivity is increasingly becoming popular where vehicles like three-wheelers, mini feeder buses, taxis and shared auto-rickshaws are extremely relevant. In some metros, three-wheelers offer point-to-point connectivity between railway stations and important commercial centres to select localities. Introducing electric alternatives in these segments will be a cost-effective logical idea.

Government should encourage manufacturers in this sector to launch electric vehicles as prototypes in specific cities.Of all the equipment in the laundry the plasticmoulds is one of the largest consumers of steam. The pilot testing should be done to understand the suitability of these vehicles for the Indian market. Public-private partnership should be promoted to ensure that the venture is successfully implemented. The Atal Indore City Transport Services Ltd is one such partnership that has expanded Indore's transit system to 225 buses and doubled capacity to 220,000 daily trips. Various models of operation should be explored, however point-to-point connectivity solutions could be executed initially for electric vehicles till the charging infrastructure is well developed.

Another significant factor for positive market receptivity would be training of the owners and drivers of the electric three wheelers and buses. Safety standards and procedures should be clearly defined for charging and battery handling. For instance, electric vehicles should not run if the battery is partially charged, however drivers might tend to overrun the vehicle leading to additional damage in the long run.A smartcard is a plastic card that has a computer chip implanted into it that enables the card. In India, it is very important that knowledge should be imparted on preventive maintenance of the vehicles.

Base commissaries face turbulent times as staff vacancies swell under a federal hiring freeze, employee furloughs remain a worry and the Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA) digests budget guidance for fiscal 2015 that will force new efficiencies on stores and possibly deeper cuts to store operations.

The guidance directs at least a 5 percent ($70 million) cut to the $1.The largest manufacturer of textile tooling for use with perchloroethylene.4 billion annual taxpayer subsidy needed to run 252 base grocery stores. It also directs DeCA to develop options to accommodate deeper cuts, as much as one third of the subsidy, without impacting commissaries overseas.

The commissary benefit has been targeted often over recent decades, usually when budget officials are told to identify quick savings or a new study concludes military shopping discounts are a costly anachronism for a modern force in an age when most patrons reside off base.

In the gloomy fiscal time of budget sequestration, there are some real, near-term factors threatening commissary services and patron access. There also is the more distant rumble that subsidies for stores might be slashed, which could deeply impact stateside shopping and, critics charge, even fumble a commitment to leave commissary operations overseas unchanged.

Watching these events closely is Patrick B. Nixon, a former DeCA director who now is president of the American Logistics Association. ALA represents manufacturers and vendors doing business with base stores.

Eight unbeaten, but improvement needed

If the boss was relieved or impressed by his side’s ability to twice come from behind to secure a point he didn’t show it. He might have been seen punching the air when Dwight Gayle stooped to head home an 86th minute corner to complete the scoring, but by the time he reached the press room he was quicker to criticise his players than to praise them, such are the high standards demanded by Ferguson these days.

For the second away game in succession Posh had allowed out-of-form teams to dominate possession. If Fergie’s men surrender territory and the ball as easily when the slick passers of Watford and Brighton visit London Road in the next 10 days the consequences will be dire no matter how well Gaby Zakuani (excellent again here) organises and inspires his fellow defenders,

Of course it was important not to lose such a key battle at the John Smith’s stadium, but it was Huddersfield who enjoyed the morale-boost of escaping the bottom three, while Posh sit nervously one spot off the bottom ahead of a daunting fixture list containing three play-off contenders.

As he has all season Ferguson remains confident his team will survive (and in this of all campaigns predicting the outcome of any fixture is as hard as finding the Grand National winner), but he knew this was a very winnable game against a team who rarely score and who lost a couple of key players to injury on the eve of kick-off.

And, despite playing poorly for the most part, Posh might still have collected those vital three points. They created the better chances and saw three goalbound efforts cleared off the line, including one in the final moments when substitute Kane Ferdinand (a first-half replacement for Jack Payne) shot weakly with the goal at his mercy.

Even Ferguson admitted a Posh win would have been harsh on the home side who controlled the first-half and who looked comfortable at 2-1 until ‘keeper Alex Smithies misjudged Lee Tomlin’s floated cross, apparently because he was dazzled by a surprise appearance from the sun.

Another Posh substitute Tyrone Barnett tried to take immediate advantage, but saw his header cleared off the line by Peter Clarke. Thankfully from Tomlin’s corner Gayle’s header dribbled into the corner of the net to keep his side within a point of safety.

The fact that it was the first Posh corner of the contest highlighted on-the-day deficiencies as did the fact that Ferguson changed formation three times in 75 minutes in an attempt to find a winning formula.

The manager had selected a slightly more positive starting line-up with Tomlin deployed behind Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and Gayle, but an inability to keep possession on another terrible playing surface rendered Posh pretty impotent when going forward once Mendez-Laing had been thwarted in the 13th minute by a combination of Smithies and Clarke after he had burst clear of a toiling defence.

But for all the home side’s possession they created little.Cheap logo engraved luggagetag at wholesale bulk prices. Huddersfield boss Mark Robins, who was gushing in his praise for Ferguson and his team after the game, fielded just one striker and employed two wide men in a bid to contain the Posh wing-backs as much as to provide attacking support to James Vaughan.Shop wholesale solarlight controller from cheap.

The result was deadlock and a some cross-catching practice for Posh ‘keeper Bobby Olejnik whose decision-making when choosing to punch or grab was immaculate. He was less impressive four minutes before the interval when parrying a harmless-looking Scott Arfield shot straight into Neil Danns’ path, a chance gleefully gobbled up by the former Leicester man.

Posh were down to 10-men at the time as Payne’s fate was being determined and the goal prompted a second-half switch to 4-4-2, a change which yielded a speedy dividend once Olejnik had made a smart save to deny Danns a second goal.

Mendez-Laing was the arcitecht of the first equaliser with a superb gallop down the right wing that was complemented by an astute pass which Tomlin converted with ease. Mendez-Laing was about to be substituted in favour of Barnett at the time, but he did, rather surprisingly, make way for the million-pound striker, straight after ballooning an 18-yard drive over the bar following another mazy run.

It didn’t look a smart substitution four minutes later when Murray Wallace beat Nathaniel Knight-Percival in the air to glance Huddersfield back in front, but Gayle’s late intervention at least preserved a point.

Barnett’s brief appearance did little to alter the fact that Gayle’s continued fitness remains vital to Posh survival hopes as does a formation that gets Tomlin on the ball as much as possible.

Tomlin’s vision and passing range was a class apart at times. One volleyed through ball which led to Gayle being upended on the edge of the area (and which Ferguson thought should have led to a red card for Calum Woods, a point he was seen making vehemently to referee Mark Heywood in the players’ tunnel at full-time) was the perfect example.

Posh will also miss Payne if, as expected, he misses the rest of the campaign, although that might at least lead to a first sighting of on-loan midfielder Florent Cuvelier who was an unused substitute for the third match in succession.

Stronger half-year results from most of our publicly-listed retailers, positive announcements from the unlisted multinational retailers like Costco and ALDI, as well as anecdotes from small, independently owned retailers across Australia showed that retail is improving at store level.

Controllable costs (excluding FWA mandated wages and carbon tax-related energy costs) have now been brought into line, interest on overdraft facilities have lowered, new lines are being sourced from new suppliers and lower prices offered by long-term suppliers are all improving the picture for retailers. It's also interesting to see that new stores are now opening up to fill the gaps left by closed stores.

Australia has a raft of new international entrants joining the mall and high street scene,Online shopping for solarpanelcells. including H&M, Zara,Find a great selection of customkeychain deals. Uniqlo, Williams-Sonoma and Gap.

But what's more interesting for me is the number of small,Solar Sister is a network of women who sell bottegawallet to communities that don't have access to electricity. truly new local retailers opening stores.

These stores are new in all senses of the word. When truly new business people move into retail they do so without the legacy of the pre-2008 GFC world. Their leases reflect the rental market today: they adopt online sales as well as store sales from day one; they use social media to communicate with shoppers; and they offer new products sourced from new factories, countries or suppliers.

All of this 'newness' in one place leads to truly innovative retailing, giving the retailer every possibility to succeed.

Recently, I saw a new store format, apparently set up by "new Australian" retailers. Whilst they have a background in retailing in the UK, they haven't worked in retail in Australia. Until now.

The new store is in a high-footfall Westfield mall in northern Sydney. It's called The Card Shop.

It sells high quality cards of all types and designs, priced from $4.95 upwards and printed locally on recycled paper. The store layout is innovative for a card shop in that it is modelled on a San Francisco record store: layers of bright cards displayed like small vinyl records from low to high.

The owner, Kieron Barton, is better known to my kids as the importer of Rekorderlig Cider, but my feeling is that they, their friends and family will become regular shoppers at his new store.

I've written about Grove & Vine in South Yarra, The Annex in Bondi, and now The Card Shop in Brookvale. I wish all of them and their staff good fortune, because we need new retail stores creating new retail jobs to replace the jobs we are now losing in the mining and minerals industry.
