Steve McCurry Talks About His Career

The New Year is typically rung in with a few friends, fireworks, far too many drinks and a long lie in on January 1. When we do resurface there is the renewed optimism that this year, unlike all the others before it, we might actually be able to uphold those burgeoning resolutions. A look to the calendar as a symbol for a future filled with promise and renewed determination frequently ends up being a reminder of just how weak-willed we can be.

Therefore, why not have a special one, so beautiful that you can never come to resent it for pointing out you only got to February before crumbling? Plus, Chinese New Year isn't until the 10th of the month so that's another great excuse to bide your time.

Originally created in 1963 and officially launched in 1964, the Pirelli Calendar was a way for the Italian brand to say thank you to their most valued clients and associates while promoting their prestigious tires with sexy pin-ups shot in exotic locations. A company best known for outfitting the world's fastest cars and super bikes were soon gaining a reputation for getting pulses racing with their yearly gift. It rapidly grew into an iconic status symbol not only for drawing in heavy hitting photographers such as Herb Ritts, Richard Avedon, Annie Liebovitz and Mario Testino, but also for its notorious exclusivity; the calendar has never been sold.

An emblem that is renowned for oozing sex and luxury, this year's release has shifted gears from its predecessors by taking an overriding humanitarian approach. Unlike Mario Sorrenti's island nymphs, Karl Lagerfeld's Greek gods in the buff and Terry Richardson's raunchy Brazilian beach blanket bingo, the models have not only kept their clothes on, but they're doing so while promoting a worthwhile cause. And at the helm of the 40th anniversary edition is none other than legendary photojournalist Steve McCurry.

For over three decades, Steve McCurry has traveled the globe capturing unseen conflict with his astounding images of war-torn Afghanistan and Iraq. His storied career has produced an incredible wealth of genuinely humbling images. From his coverage of various nomadic cultures on the verge of vanishing to that iconic image of Sharbat Gula, the Afghan Girl for the 1985 cover of National Geographic, McCurry's vast portfolio speaks volumes to his keen and explorative eye. And this year, McCurry captured 11 stunning women such as model Isabeli Fontana -- making a record sixth appearance -- Happy Hearts Fund founder and tsunami survivor Petra Nemcova, actress and advocate Sonia Braga,Posts with thequicksilverscreen system on TRX Systems develops systems that locate and track personnel indoors. all chosen on the credibility of their own humanitarian causes as much as for their beauty.

McCurry's version is not overtly provocative. Compared to his predecessors, you could possibly consider his work tame, or even prudish. "I wanted to show the models as real as possible," said McCurry. "I asked myself, 'How can we show them in a more personal way or in a less fashiony way?'" So he exercised his right to full creative control and kept them clothed for a reason. He wanted to allow the viewers to see a fully formed person as opposed to "outright sex objects." Any hints of sexuality you see in the photos are exuded purely by womanly confidence. And what about welcoming the heavily pregnant Brazilian model Adriana Lima into the fold, a first for Pirelli? "When I heard she was pregnant, I thought, 'Great. We can work with that,'" said McCurry. "It's who she is, so why not.Bottle cutters let you turn old parkingsystem and wine bottles into bottle art!"

For Pirelli, this wasn't the first time they've employed somebody with a journalistic background. Robert Freeman, the first official photographer of the Pirelli calendar was famous for shooting The Beatles, jazz giants such as John Coltrane and Dizzy Gillespie and even Nikita Khrushchev, the first secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union in the Kremlin for The Sunday Times. For their 40th anniversary, they were looking for an artist who could capture their chosen location in a unique light. "We were looking for someone that wasn't a typical fashion photographer," said Pirelli's Fabia Snider. "We weren't interested with photographers who had celebrities all over their sites. We were interested in Steve because he's worked around the world and is like an anthropologist. We wanted someone who could capture not only the beauty in the landscape and the beauty of the women, but also the soul of a country. Steve created his own Brazil -- his own Rio de Janeiro -- he was perfect.A Dessicant miningtruck is an enclosure with a supply of desiccant which maintains an internal."

Brazil,We offer a wide variety of high-quality standard howotractor and controllers. now making its third appearance as the setting for the calendar (2005, 2010) is an ideal backdrop for Pirelli. Not only is it picturesque and exotic, two big ticks in their calendar requirements checklist, it's also a developing country currently experiencing rapid economic growth. It may be a surprise for some to learn that is it also Pirelli's largest market.

When Pirelli contacted McCurry, they wanted him to capture the desirability and social transformation of Rio while avoiding the stereotypical clichés of beaches, favelas and the famous carnival. They wanted him to isolate the changing nature of this vibrant country and document its unique strengths. For McCurry, who had been to Brazil many times before, Rio gave him a multitude of options filled with color, energy and soul, not only throughout the cityscape, but within its people. With this 2013 edition I believe that he succeeded on every level.

One of the stranger stories to come out of Toronto has to do with something that supposedly took place in August 1978. Sometime during that month, according to the tale, a Torontonian searching for a lost cat ventured into a tunnel and encountered something terrifying.

We all know the downtown PATH system: 28 kilometres of climate-controlled underground walkways and shopping. But what if we told you that Toronto has another buried city,High quality glassbottles tiles. also populated by pale wizened troglodytes who rarely emerge to see the light of day?

The person who went searching for the missing cat on that hot summer day was a 51-year-old man only identified only as “Ernest.” Flashlight in hand, he crawled into a small opening near his apartment building on Parliament Street and found himself in a low tunnel.

Plastic Mould Manufacturer

Sino Mould Co., Ltd. is the world famous Chinese plastic mould manufacturers in Southeast of China, from 1999 a small workshop until today, SINO MOULD has a great achievements in plastic mould design and manufacturing. From the starting 10 officers until now more than 800, from 0.3M USD turnover to now more than 40M USD, from 50SQM workshop to now bigger then 60000SQM building area, from low quality plastic mould to super quality Plastic mould...during this 11 years, SINO MOULD has manufactured more then 9000 sets of plastic moulds.

In 2001 year, SINO MOULD established the partner relationship with MTS ( Mould Technology Service Co.) in Belgium, from this year, 60% of SINO MOULD's production capacity was offered to MTS, until 2004 year. During the cooperation with MTS, SINO MOULD established SINO MOULD quality standard for plastic mould design and manufacturing. The quality standard is based on MTS's requirements combined with DME standard plastic mould base and plastic mould components dimensions and quality.  <<sino plastic mould design standard>> and <<sino plastic mould manufacturing standard>>, the introduction and implementation of this two quality standards caused the great improvements of SINO MOULD'S quality…from that time, SINO MOULD know what's the European requirements for the plastic mould, and the teams have gained the very top quality conception and mentality.

From 1999 to 2010, SINO MOULD has invested more than 20M USD of various plastic mould tooling equipments.
In July of 2005 year, SINO MOULD has carried out the quality managements according with TS16949, under this managements standard, Plastic Mould SINO MOULD improved the quality management system. Such like the process managements, dimension controlling, technology and skill training, quality controlling for plastic mould design and material and components of plastic mould.

From the end of 2008 until now, SINO MOULD has realized greatest optimization to the management, this actions has further improved the plastic moulds quality, delivery time, increased the market competitiveness. The optimizations are as follows:

SINO team put much more time than before in the plastic mould design analysis process. So the quality control of plastic mould design has been more rigorous. We did the biggest possibilities to avoid any Errors or shortcomings in the plastic mould design. So that we solved many plastic moulds problems in the computer while not in the workshop.

New tooling machines and QC equipments investment  total investment from Sep.2009 to May. 2010 is around 4.5M USD.

SINO MOULD prohibited any hand workings on the plastic mould plates and other components, all the parts must be precise and well done by machining. The new technologies of machining process determined the precision. Such as: from the rough machining to precision machining, we have increased half precision machining, by this way, we have reduced the deforming of the plastic mould parts when they are machining…the taping for the screw holes, we started the processing by CNC milling machines or by the special taping machines…many tools and jigs innovating helped the high precise and effective of tooling...

Before precise milling or machining, there is one dimension inspection, after the precise machining, before it taking for assembling, there is dimensions inspection according to the printing drawings. All the dimensions must meet with moulds 2D drawings' tolerances

Before the shipments, all the plastic moulds will be put onto the machines for mass production inspection, for example some plastic moulds will automatic work for 24 hours, some huge plastic mould will run for at least 4 hours. And we will suggest our customer to do some quantity's parts plastic moulding in our company. The purpose is that to be sure there will be none problems on the plastic moulds.

As for the modern Plastic Mould Manufacturer, Sino Mould has herself managements system, team's philosophy of quality, company technologies properties and patents, Sino people's working culture and life culture…Sino people know that Sino is a company not only like a home, it is also like an army and a school.

Poland’s Boryszew bids for supplier to Rolls Royce and Bentley

Acquisitive Polish industrial group Boryszew continues to grow its automotive components business, staking a claim to the production assets of another insolvent German parts supplier, Ymos.

Boryszew has made a binding offer to purchase the German and Polish plants of Idar-Oberstein-based Ymos. It is a leading manufacturer of plastic, galvanised and chrome-plated car door system components for handles, hinge and locking systems.

Ymos also makes other metal and plastic auto parts. Its main customers include VW, Audi, Daimler, Bentley and Rolls Royce. The firm recorded 2010 revenues of around 80m but went into bankruptcy in August 2011.

Boryszew is one of three bidders for the Ymos assets which it believes will contribute to its continued rise to become a significant global auto components manufacturer, the Polish group said in a statement.

Earlier this year, Boryszew scooped up Theysohn Kunststoff, a key German parts supplier to VW, and its mould making partner from Austrian precision component group HTI High Tech Industries.

In August, the Sochaczew-based group agreed to pay 6.7m to purchase assets of insolvent German plastics auto parts moulder Altmrker Kunststoff-Technik (AKT), including a Czech plant.

In 2010, Boryszew had bought the insolvent Italian automotive tubing producer Maflow International Group.

Boryszew is considering constructing two automotive part production plants in Russia via two of the businesses it recently acquired, Maflow and AKT. In the first nine months of this year, the Polish group posted a net profit of 24.5m, up from 13.8m for the period in 2010, on sales of 710m, a 41% gain over last year.

Objet demonstrates ready-to-use 3D printing

There's little doubt now that the world is on the cusp of a 3D printing revolution, but the technology has always been held back by its scale: while small objects are easy to create out of lightweight materials, usable large-scale creations are more difficult.

Objet, a company founded back in 1998 to create commercial-scale 3D printing systems, believes that it may be pushing that barrier with its latest creation: an entirely 3D printed folding chair, capable of supporting up to 100 kilograms.

The 48cm creation has been created out of the company's ABS-Like Digital Material, a 3D printing medium which it claims has similar stability, thermal resistance, and toughness to traditional ABS-grade engineering plastics. As a result, the finished product is able to easily support the weight of a single person.

It's a far cry from the early days of 3D printing, where objects were created out of wax, soft plastic, or starch and were usable only as a rough approximation of a finished product or as the basis for a mould to be used in more traditional manufacturing systems.

"Whether skateboards or folding stools, the prototypes that come out of Objet Connex 3D printers look like the real thing and also perform like the real thing," crowed Objet's vice president Gilad Gans. "Not only can this stool carry the weight of a person, but it was actually printed in the fold-up position in a single print job and then opened-up upon removal from the printer to be used."

While Objet's clever materials and high-resolution printers are well out of the reach of the average consumer for now, it's representative of the technology that will one day be found in every office and - possibly - in every home: a system for the creation of usable, customised products that can be transferred to the end user digitally rather than physically.
