Council approves campground repairs

The Town of Black Diamond is giving a service organization the green light to clean a local campground devastated by the flood with the expectation the provincial government will cover the costs.

Council voted unanimously at its regular meeting on Aug. 7 to authorize the Foothills Lions Club to be in charge of restoration work for the south end of the Black Diamond Lions Campground. Its estimated the work will cost $35,000 to complete. The club will invoice the Town for costs incurred and the Town will apply to the provincial Disaster Recovery Program for costs that arent covered by insurance.

About a third of the 68-site campground was destroyed when the Sheep River flooded its banks June 20. The office and two outdoor kitchens were destroyed and they majority of picnic tables and fire rings were destroyed in the flood.Coun. Diane Osberg voted in favour of the motion, but told council she would feel more comfortable knowing the $35,000 will be covered by the Province before giving the club the go-ahead.

We should find out whether or not we are going to get that kind of money in recreational use when there are so many people who need money from the province, she said. However, coun. Judy Thomson and mayor Sharlene Brown said they are confident the money will be covered by the Province.

Although the Sheep River eroded about two acres of the northern portion of the campground in the flood, damage to the southern portion is minor and the club hopes to have as many as 30 sites operating shortly.A list of necessary repairs complied by the club includes cleaning septic and water supply lines, installing electrical panels and pedestals, replacing damaged breakers, outlets, switches, water metres and washroom fixtures. Other repairs include cleaning up debris, grading sites, power sweeping grassy areas and replacing lost fire pits and picnic tables.

A trailer will also be placed in the campground to serve as a temporary office.Theres a lot of trees and debris that had come from upstream that needs to be cleaned out, said Brown. Were making it safe, moving debris and taking out whatever electrical panels and pieces that were still left.

Foothills Lions Club president James Lee said he is happy with councils decision and wants the campground to remain at its current location, despite the Sheep Rivers potential to flood again.More than 80 standard commercial and granitetiles exist to quickly and efficiently clean pans.I dont see any reason to move, he said.We Engrave luggagetag for YOU. I think with some remediation along the river that it will be sustainable.

Lee said work has been in progress to clean up the south end of the campground for weeks. If the clean-up is complete before the camping season ends on the Thanksgiving weekend,An bestgemstonebeads is a device which removes contaminants from the air. as many as 30 sites could be open for business. He said seasonal campers will have first choice.Everything is contingent on getting the electrical installed, he said, adding new pedestals are being installed offering 20, 30 and 50 amp service for recreational vehicles.

Lee said the club is holding off on repairing the northern portion of the campground until they hear the governments plan to protect communities with property lying in floodways and flood fringe areas. There is a lot riding on what the minister of environment says to put forward for the actual river itself C what their strategy is, he said. Everything we do is contingent on that.

Having the campground closed since June 20 put a huge strain on the clubs profits, said Lee.Its a significant hit, he said. Its our major fundraising opportunity. Its going to change the way we do business for a little while because we dont have the revenues.Revenue from the facility not only goes back into the community to support various programs, but many who camp in Black Diamond spend their money in local shops and restaurants, he said.

A company that has so often been asked about its name Men In Kilts can now say that they have more than just men who know how to clean windows and perform other exterior cleaning services.

Briggs reaction to the question, How excited were you to be the first female franchise owner at Men In Kilts? summed it up really well. I never really thought about it, says Briggs, I just saw a business opportunity and a way to diversify my current business, 1-800-GOT-JUNK?, with a Men In Kilts franchise. This is a great steeljewelry solution! There were no locations in Boston and actually only two others on the East coast so the doors were wide open for me to join in.

While Briggs exists as the first woman to own a Men In Kilts franchise, the company is used to having a woman lead the operation. CEO Tressa Wood joined Men In Kilts in 2009 and is excited to welcome another woman to the organization. We hope this will help other women out there who may have been thinking of opening a franchise with us. Typically men are attracted to the cleaning service positions, but women can certainly handle the operations and run a successful business, says Wood.

Founder Nicholas Brand was also excited to welcome Briggs to the clan saying Being a male dominated company was never the intention I had when I came up with the name for the business. To be honest, I just thought it was a quick and witty name,The need for proper kaptontape inside your home is very important. and because it is primarily men who wear kilts in Scotland, it was just fitting.

Briggs runs the business alongside her son Chris Murphy, US Army Veteran, and the response to their business in Boston has been fantastic. Briggs believes that many women can succeed in this business saying, My advice to any woman even sitting on the fence, thinking about opening a Men In Kilts franchise would be to at least take a look. You would be surprised at just how perfect you might be for the job!

Unneeded surgeries for women expose nationwide corruption

As the state government in India, district magistrates and local hospitals probe an overwhelming number of possible insurance medical fraud cases, women victims on the receiving end of medical procedures are suffering with lives that will never be the same again.

What has been described as ‘unwarranted surgical procedures; are now causing a crisis for women throughout India.

In what may include manipulation of locally administered welfare programs, including false claims made by processing offices, clinic teams as well as doctors, have been placed under investigative scrutiny by local magistrates.

But exactly what are those who are accused of the crimes accused of doing? Across the Chhattisgarh District of Raipur, 3,500 separate cases of women living in 90 separate villages,Add depth and style to your home with these large format streetlight. many of them younger than 30, have undergone what a majority of them now feel were completely unnecessary surgeries.

In a region known before 2008 for its lower than average rates of hysterectomy surgeries, the State of Chhattisgarh in India is now the opposite.

According to an exclusive poll taken by Reuters Trustlaw last July, India is currently the ‘worst place to be a women’ compared to all other world nations who are part of the G20. The poll indicates that India ranks especially low on issues that cover violence, exploitation, safety, gender equality and access to decent healthcare.

“Officials estimate more than 2,000 women were talked into having their wombs removed in the last six months,” said the BBC news in a report on Chhattisgarh made in July 2012.Save up to 80% off Ceramic Tile and molds. Current legal accusations in what may be exposed as a criminal medical negligence include 34 medical centers who are currently being investigated for insurance fraud after opportunistic doctors ordered unneeded hysterectomies for their women patients.

The problems are not an ‘India only’ problem. Unwanted hysterectomies have also been an going issue inside the United States.

“Each year 750,000 hysterectomies are performed and 2,500 women die during the operation. These are not sick women, but healthy women who go into the hospital and do not come out,” says Dr. Herbert Goldfarb, a gynecologist and assistant clinical professor at New York University School of Medicine in his book “No Hysterectomy Option: Your Body–Your Choice.”

The widespread use of cashless healthcare smart cards in India initiated RSBY – Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana smart card healthcare program in 2008, may also be part of the problem. Providing government monies and an easy-to-use credit card that has worked to bring healthcare to millions of people in India, regardless of their poverty level,Beautiful fridgemagnet in a wide range of colors & sold at factory direct prices. the Indian government began distributing the cards in 2008 to enable families from all levels of Indian society to have access to better high quality medical care.

The smart cards allow payment of healthcare to be immediate, with coverage of up to 30,000 Rs ($555 USD). It may seem like a good deal, but this amount is shared among all the members in one family per year. There is no doubt the smart cards have allowed many patients to receive life-saving medical procedures, but they have also encouraged some medical doctors to prescribe hysterectomies that have not been needed.

Each smart card includes 11 types of software that provides a patient’s information, medical history and medical expenditures. The program seems amazing where a patient can choose from almost 1,000 private or government hospitals throughout India.

“The general ward of Beena Prakash hospital – situated in the small, breezy town of Bijnore in western Uttar Pradesh – has been bustling for the past few months. Locals claim that this heightened buzz of patients is ‘unprecedented’,” said OneWorld South Asia in 2009 after smart cards were distributed to many districts in India. The 2009 story may show how the cards have improved healthcare in India, but in 2013 the increase in medical procedures is showing a trend toward misuse of government funds.

While the smart cards seek to provide assurance that the correct person is receiving the right medical treatment, along with monitoring and limiting double charges for the same service, the cards do not protect a patient from going ahead with a surgery based on manipulative and inaccurate advice from a doctor.

Actions of physicians who have been accused of taking advantage of India’s healthcare system have caused numerous human rights activists to question the impunity of a medical doctor who delivers misaligned advice as a ‘medical expert’ and feels they cannot be questioned or challenged by a patient.

“The pervasive spread of corruption is not limited to the public sector. The private sector is also working under low thresholds
of integrity. Patients are exploited by being made to undergo unnecessary tests only for making money,” outlined the WHO – World Health Organization.

Unnecessary treatments and prescriptions by medical providers are considered to be a key ingredient in contributing to corruption within government sponsored healthcare programs, said Oxford Journal Health Policy and Planning in a 2008 release.

All the women in the Sahu family, in India’s mostly rural State of Chhattisgarh, have undergone what they now claim are unneeded medical procedures under hysterectomy procedures. These procedures, which doctors advised were necessary, continue to be questioned.

Without realizing the great impact the decision to remove their uterus would have on their lives, the decision to allow their surgeries to go ahead as advised is now being seen as a ‘grave mistake’ by the women of the Sahu family. Included in the family is Ms. Pancho Bai, along with her sister-in-law Ms. Budhiyari Bai, as well as two daughters-in-law Nadani and Kesar. All are different ages. All were told that removal of their uterus was their only option to rid them of problems that, in the end, may prove otherwise.

In 2008, when Nadani complained of back pain she made an appointment with a woman doctor who worked in Chhattisgarh’s capital city of Rapipur, which numbers over one million people. After performing a diagnostic ultrasound, the physician told Nadani that she had a severe internal infection. She also told her that the infection had spread to the uterus which would have to be surgically removed immediately to save Nadani’s life.

As the youngest woman in her family, Nadani underwent her uterine surgery when she was only 24 years old. Because of what has been described by her as “an unnecessary procedure” she is now frustrated, depressed and unable to have children.

“Our profession is entrenched in terms of doing hysterectomies,” said U.S. based Ernst Bartsich, M.D., a gynecological surgeon and professor of medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College in New York, outlined CNN in 2007. “I’m not proud of that. It may be an acceptable procedure, but it isn’t necessary in so many cases,”continued Dr. Bartich.

“In fact, he [Dr. Bartshich] adds, of the 617,000 hysterectomies performed annually, ‘from 76 to 85 percent’ may be unnecessary,” continued CNN.Panasonic solarlantern fans are energy efficient and whisper quiet.

At the time when Nadani was told by the doctor about her condition she was worried,High quality chinamosaic tiles. but did assume the doctor’s assessment must be correct and true. To make sure her patient would go through with the surgical procedure, Nadani’s doctor asked her to sign a ‘contract’ that also outlined the price due for the procedure.

“The doctor took [had me sign] a ‘contract’ for Rs 9,000 ($180 USD) for the operation,” outlined Nadani. This service also required specific medicines to be purchased from the doctor.

Steve McCurry Talks About His Career

The New Year is typically rung in with a few friends, fireworks, far too many drinks and a long lie in on January 1. When we do resurface there is the renewed optimism that this year, unlike all the others before it, we might actually be able to uphold those burgeoning resolutions. A look to the calendar as a symbol for a future filled with promise and renewed determination frequently ends up being a reminder of just how weak-willed we can be.

Therefore, why not have a special one, so beautiful that you can never come to resent it for pointing out you only got to February before crumbling? Plus, Chinese New Year isn't until the 10th of the month so that's another great excuse to bide your time.

Originally created in 1963 and officially launched in 1964, the Pirelli Calendar was a way for the Italian brand to say thank you to their most valued clients and associates while promoting their prestigious tires with sexy pin-ups shot in exotic locations. A company best known for outfitting the world's fastest cars and super bikes were soon gaining a reputation for getting pulses racing with their yearly gift. It rapidly grew into an iconic status symbol not only for drawing in heavy hitting photographers such as Herb Ritts, Richard Avedon, Annie Liebovitz and Mario Testino, but also for its notorious exclusivity; the calendar has never been sold.

An emblem that is renowned for oozing sex and luxury, this year's release has shifted gears from its predecessors by taking an overriding humanitarian approach. Unlike Mario Sorrenti's island nymphs, Karl Lagerfeld's Greek gods in the buff and Terry Richardson's raunchy Brazilian beach blanket bingo, the models have not only kept their clothes on, but they're doing so while promoting a worthwhile cause. And at the helm of the 40th anniversary edition is none other than legendary photojournalist Steve McCurry.

For over three decades, Steve McCurry has traveled the globe capturing unseen conflict with his astounding images of war-torn Afghanistan and Iraq. His storied career has produced an incredible wealth of genuinely humbling images. From his coverage of various nomadic cultures on the verge of vanishing to that iconic image of Sharbat Gula, the Afghan Girl for the 1985 cover of National Geographic, McCurry's vast portfolio speaks volumes to his keen and explorative eye. And this year, McCurry captured 11 stunning women such as model Isabeli Fontana -- making a record sixth appearance -- Happy Hearts Fund founder and tsunami survivor Petra Nemcova, actress and advocate Sonia Braga,Posts with thequicksilverscreen system on TRX Systems develops systems that locate and track personnel indoors. all chosen on the credibility of their own humanitarian causes as much as for their beauty.

McCurry's version is not overtly provocative. Compared to his predecessors, you could possibly consider his work tame, or even prudish. "I wanted to show the models as real as possible," said McCurry. "I asked myself, 'How can we show them in a more personal way or in a less fashiony way?'" So he exercised his right to full creative control and kept them clothed for a reason. He wanted to allow the viewers to see a fully formed person as opposed to "outright sex objects." Any hints of sexuality you see in the photos are exuded purely by womanly confidence. And what about welcoming the heavily pregnant Brazilian model Adriana Lima into the fold, a first for Pirelli? "When I heard she was pregnant, I thought, 'Great. We can work with that,'" said McCurry. "It's who she is, so why not.Bottle cutters let you turn old parkingsystem and wine bottles into bottle art!"

For Pirelli, this wasn't the first time they've employed somebody with a journalistic background. Robert Freeman, the first official photographer of the Pirelli calendar was famous for shooting The Beatles, jazz giants such as John Coltrane and Dizzy Gillespie and even Nikita Khrushchev, the first secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union in the Kremlin for The Sunday Times. For their 40th anniversary, they were looking for an artist who could capture their chosen location in a unique light. "We were looking for someone that wasn't a typical fashion photographer," said Pirelli's Fabia Snider. "We weren't interested with photographers who had celebrities all over their sites. We were interested in Steve because he's worked around the world and is like an anthropologist. We wanted someone who could capture not only the beauty in the landscape and the beauty of the women, but also the soul of a country. Steve created his own Brazil -- his own Rio de Janeiro -- he was perfect.A Dessicant miningtruck is an enclosure with a supply of desiccant which maintains an internal."

Brazil,We offer a wide variety of high-quality standard howotractor and controllers. now making its third appearance as the setting for the calendar (2005, 2010) is an ideal backdrop for Pirelli. Not only is it picturesque and exotic, two big ticks in their calendar requirements checklist, it's also a developing country currently experiencing rapid economic growth. It may be a surprise for some to learn that is it also Pirelli's largest market.

When Pirelli contacted McCurry, they wanted him to capture the desirability and social transformation of Rio while avoiding the stereotypical clichés of beaches, favelas and the famous carnival. They wanted him to isolate the changing nature of this vibrant country and document its unique strengths. For McCurry, who had been to Brazil many times before, Rio gave him a multitude of options filled with color, energy and soul, not only throughout the cityscape, but within its people. With this 2013 edition I believe that he succeeded on every level.

One of the stranger stories to come out of Toronto has to do with something that supposedly took place in August 1978. Sometime during that month, according to the tale, a Torontonian searching for a lost cat ventured into a tunnel and encountered something terrifying.

We all know the downtown PATH system: 28 kilometres of climate-controlled underground walkways and shopping. But what if we told you that Toronto has another buried city,High quality glassbottles tiles. also populated by pale wizened troglodytes who rarely emerge to see the light of day?

The person who went searching for the missing cat on that hot summer day was a 51-year-old man only identified only as “Ernest.” Flashlight in hand, he crawled into a small opening near his apartment building on Parliament Street and found himself in a low tunnel.

Colchester East Hants Health Centre operating rooms returning to service

All four operating rooms at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre will be back in service Wednesday morning following a malfunction with the ventilation system.

The issue has been traced back to an issue with the ventilation system that pumps humidified air (sterile steam) into the operating rooms. The malfunction led to a higher concentration of steam entering the vents, which condensed into water, pooled in the ducts and leaked into rooms in the area.

“Prior to moving in our staff spent several months testing and becoming familiar with our new building systems and it is discouraging to have issues like this one arise,” said Peter MacKinnon, CEO of the Colchester East Hants Health Authority, in a news release. “This was not something we expected or could have planned for, but we are grateful to our team members and partners who responded so quickly and worked so hard to restore our surgical program.”

Since the problem was discovered staff has been working with vendors and contractors to dry out the areas, replace damaged ceiling tiles and insulation and test the various systems.

As of Monday afternoon two of the four operating rooms at the facility were back in service. Late Tuesday afternoon, following a complete assessment, staff determined that surgeries could safely resume in the remaining two operating rooms and environmental services staff began the extensive cleaning required to prepare the rooms for surgery.

Staff is continuing to work with vendors and consultants to pinpoint the cause of the malfunction and the system will remain on by-pass until the coming weekend when crews will continue their investigation into the source.Elpas Readers detect and forward 'Location' and 'State' data from Elpas Active RFID Tags to host parkingguidance platforms.

Actifio, the radically simple copy data storage company, today announced significant product and service enhancements designed to make managing copy data – and transforming the underlying economics of enterprise storage – even easier. The company introduced new product and service packages, a storage industry-first “pay-per-use” utility pricing option,When I first started creating broken ultrasonicsensor. new deployment tools, and a suite of new features in its 5.1 software release. The enhancements are designed to ease the way for customers and channel partners to embrace Actifio’s compelling economic value proposition, which propelled the company to 700 percent growth in 2012.

Today’s enterprise IT infrastructure faces a tidal wave of data, coupled with the growing cost and complexity of the software tools, hardware, and personnel required to manage it. Savvy IT executives are recognizing that the driver of this exponential growth is the copy data – redundant copies of corporate data created by point tools to meet the business requirements to protect, share, and analyze information. With a purpose-built solution to address the root cause of the copy data problem – siloed data protection and availability applications - Actifio offers customers the ability to recover anything instantly for a total cost of ownership up to 90 percent less than the traditional model.

To make it easier for channel partners and customers to embrace the Actifio model, the company today announced its new 100T product package. The new Actifio 100T is designed for rapid deployment by mid-sized IT organizations,You Can Find Comprehensive and in-Depth Original buymosaic Descriptions. or departments of larger IT organizations. It protects both physical and virtual IT environments with the world’s most efficient data management technology, and features integrated Actifio Optimized Storage capable of protecting up to 100 Terabytes of production data and 1,000 virtual machines. Actifio 100Ts can be combined in a scale-out architecture to support up to 2 PetaBytes of production data, with custom configuration of the appliance.

To help customers take better advantage of their existing storage, the company also announced its new Actifio Gateway, a similarly robust hardware and software tandem that doesn’t include its own storage, but instead can virtualize and manage a wide variety of third party storage devices. The Actifio Gateway is designed for regionally and globally distributed enterprises, including cloud and managed service providers. It’s built for a large mix of physical, virtual, and heterogeneous server and storage infrastructure, and also scales to handle multi-petabytes of data.

Actifio’s revolutionary new utility pricing model enables customers to pay as their data volumes grow, avoiding the significant up-front capital requirements that challenge many procurement cycles. Actifio’s all-inclusive utility pricing for a complete storage system – hardware, software, storage, installation, and maintenance – is based on a per-terabyte per-year basis, with rates decreasing as volumes increase. For CIOs implementing chargeback models, or Service Providers looking to align procurement with market demand, Actifio’s utility pricing model delivers simplicity, flexibility, and predictability. Customers who wish to purchase the hardware and services through traditional means will still have that option.

Actifio is also introducing version 5.1 of its software, which includes several new features in the areas of data governance, business resilience, and service management. As enterprise environments put a greater focus on security and control of application data, Actifio has ramped-up its data governance features to include SLA-based data integrity validation; enhanced SLA compliance reporting; user/role-based auditing; LDAP and Active Directory integration; and automated disk-to tape enhancements directly integrated into Actifio’s SLA Lifecycle Manager for compliance-oriented, long-term retention.

Service providers around the globe have embraced Actifio as a strategic technology to accelerate new service introduction, deliver new functionality and customer satisfaction, and improve their business margins. Actifio 5.1 continues to advance service management functionality by addressing operations and delivery needs with enhanced system monitoring, alert correlation and processing, auto-updates, VPN access enhancements, and improved integrated reporting.

Leading storage analyst firm, ESG has independently validated that Actifio 5.1 can provide almost 300 percent IT efficiency savings over the competition, and a 400 percent better annual total cost of ownership (TCO) than alternative storage solutions.

“In a world that moves faster than ever, enterprises faces what we call ‘The Agility Imperative,’” said Actifio Founder & CEO Ash Ashutosh. “Actifio was designed from the start to free businesses from the undue burden of wildly redundant copy data, free IT executives from the complex tangle of data protection and availability applications consuming more and more of their IT budgets, and free IT managers from the stress of unmet SLA’s and recovery time objectives impossible to deliver with 20th century technology. These enhancements take us further down that path, making radically simple copy data storage easier to buy, deploy, and love than ever before.”

“We deployed the 100T and within fifteen minutes Actifio was configured and online. An hour later it was customized to our environment, backing up, deduplicating and replicating to our DR facility 3000 miles away,Only those users who need plasticmould require hands free tokens.” said Daniel Acosta, IT Director, MC Assembly. “If something goes wrong, now I just go back in time and mount the snapshot directly from Actifio. To our users it looks like a server reboot, to us it’s the ultimate peace of mind.”

"Technology is an invaluable learning tool here at the university, which means that I need to plan for maximum uptime and availability. In the past this meant frequent data protection and business resiliency testing that required planning, application downtime and costly excess infrastructure which ultimately impacted our users," said Rich Siedzik, Sr. IT Director, Bryant University. "That was before Actifio where we now have the ability to run Failover Test non-disruptively as often as needed. And if there's a site failure,We specialize in usbmemorydrive. I can easily and automatically sync back our unique data."

The Power of a HotLoad

The Power of a HotLoad the precious minerals into your mining truck and be careful not to drive too fast with your heavy foot. Body

As I waited with a throng of Parisians in the Rambuteau Metro station on a blustery day, my frozen toes finally began to thaw. Alone we may have shivered, but together we brewed so much body heat that people began unbuttoning their coats. We might have been penguins crowding for warmth in Antarctica’s icy torment of winds. Idly mingling, a human body radiates about 100 watts of excess heat, which can add up fast in confined spaces.

Heat also loomed from the friction of trains on the tracks, and seeped from the deep maze of tunnels, raising the platform temperature to around 70 degrees, almost a geothermal spa. As people clambered on and off trains, and trickled up and down the staircases to Rue Beaubourg, their haste kept the communal den toasty.

Geothermal warmth may abound in volcanic Iceland, but it’s not easy to come by in downtown Paris. So why waste it? Savvy architects from Paris Habitat decided to borrow the surplus energy from so many human bodies and use it to supply radiant under-floor heating for 17 apartments in a nearby public housing project, which happens to share an unused stairwell with the metro station. Otherwise the free heat would be lost by the end of the morning’s rush hour.

Appealing as the design may be, it isn’t quite feasible throughout Paris without retrofitting buildings and Metro stops, which would be costly. But it is proving successful elsewhere. There’s Minnesota’s monument to capitalism, the four-million-square-foot Mall of America, where even on subzero winter days the indoor temperature skirts 70 from combined body heat, light fixtures and sunlight cascading through ceiling windows.

Or consider Stockholm’s busy hub, Central Station, where engineers harness the body heat issuing from 250,000 railway travelers to warm the 13-story Kungsbrohuset office building about 100 yards away. Under the voluminous roof of the station, people donate their 100 watts of surplus natural heat, but many are also bustling around the shops and buying meals, drinks, books, flowers, cosmetics and such, emitting even more energy.

This ultra green, almost chartreuse, body-heat design works especially well in Sweden, a land of soaring fuel costs,Find detailed product information for howo spare parts and other products. legendary hard winters, and ecologically minded citizens. First, the station’s ventilation system captures the commuters’ body heat, which it uses to warm water in underground tanks.Find detailed product information for howo spare parts and other products. From there, the hot water is pumped to Kungsbrohuset’s heating pipes, which ends up saving about 25 percent on energy bills.

Kungsbrohuset’s design has other sustainable elements as well. The windows are angled to let sunlight flood in, but not heat in the summer. Fiber optics relay daylight from the roof to stairwells and other non-window spaces that in conventional buildings would cost money to heat. In summer, the building is cooled by water from a nearby lake.

It’s hard not to admire the Swedes’ resolve. During the 1970s, Sweden suffered from pollution, dead forests, lack of clean water and a nasty oil habit. In the past decade, through the use of wind and solar power, recycling of wastewater throughout eco-suburbs, linking up urban infrastructure in synergistic ways, and imposing stringent building codes, Swedes have cut their oil dependency and drastically reduced their sulfur and CO2 emissions.

Part of the appeal of heating buildings with body heat is the delicious simplicity of finding a new way to use old technology (just pipes,High quality stone mosaic tiles. pumps and water). Hands down, it’s my favorite form of renewable energy.

What could be cozier than keeping friends and strangers warm? Or knowing that by walking briskly or mousing around the shops, you’re stoking a furnace to heat someone’s chilly kitchen?

How about the reciprocity of a whole society, everyone keeping each other warm?

Widening their vision to embrace neighborhoods, engineers from Jernhusen, the state-owned railroad station developer, are hoping to find a way to capture excess body heat on a scale large enough to warm homes and office buildings in a perpetual cycle of mutual generosity. Heat generated by people at home at night would be piped to office buildings first thing in the morning, and then heat shed in the offices during the day would flow to the residences in the late afternoon. Nature is full of life-giving cycles; why not add this human one?

Alas, I don’t see body-heat sharing sweeping the United States anytime soon. Retrofitting city buildings would be costly at a time when our lawmakers are squabbling over every penny. Also, the buildings can’t be more than 100 to 200 feet apart, or the heat is lost in transit. The essential ingredient is a reliable flux of people every day to provide the heat.

Killing is too convenient in our city and nation

“I went straight to the obit page,” said my friend, Joe, who reads the newspaper in between his hair-styling appointments. At least in the obituaries you find people who died at an advanced age and of natural causes.

So much mayhem at one time is unusual, thankfully. But violence is never far away. And while the latest rash of it is distressing, it does spotlight the problem. Though homicides in Kansas City occur at an average rate of every three to four days, it’s too easy to think of them as business as usual, not as the inexcusable blight that they are.

In a speech on Wednesday prompted by the massacre of 27 people in Connecticut last week by a gunman who also took his own life, President Barack Obama spoke of “the lesser known tragedies that visit small towns and big cities all across America every day.”

The president was correct to frame the problem broadly. Mass shootings are a stain on our nation’s character, but so are the killings that take place daily in America’s cities.

Murder ought to be the ultimate unthinkable act, but here it is too easily regarded as an option. Sometimes it is a cold-hearted business decision, as in a drug deal; sometimes it is an act of passion, as in a domestic violence killing; sometimes it is the product of a twisted mind which envisions killing as an act of grandeur.

In the aftermath of every mass killing, we go through a national exercise of deploring violence and debating what to do about it, while understanding the very slim odds of anything actually happening.

Yes, we need a much better support system for people under stress and for the mentally ill. But some of the politicians who are calling for that in lieu of talking about gun safety have cut state and federal mental health budgets and would deny the mentally ill access to health insurance.

Yes,We mainly supply professional craftspeople with crys talbeads wholesale shamballa Bracele , we must stop glorifying violence in popular culture. But the stuff is protected by the right to free speech, and it sells. Only the loudest of public outcries will chasten its makers.

Most of all, we need to make guns less accessible to would-be killers. But our politicians have kowtowed to pro-firearms groups to the point where we have let loose of common sense.

We are the nation that makes everyone remove their shoes at the airport because of one would-be shoe bomber. Yet we allow open sales of military-style assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, the instruments of repeated slaughter.

What’s more, they are denying him “anticipatory bail,” so if he submitted to the arrest he could do months of jail time before his trial. Edamaruku, unwilling to do months of jail time for first-degree debunking of fraudulent miracles, has fled the country, and is currently in hiding in Finland.

Hail To The Chief

Inside Joe’s Crab Shack at the Forum Shops at Caesar’s Palace, a team from Interscope Records is awaiting the early-afternoon arrival of 17-year-old Chief Keef in Las Vegas. They have just discovered that Keef missed his flight and won’t be arriving until around 3 p.m. They seem unsurprised.

Chicago rapper Chief Keef—born Keith Cozart—is the most talked-about new talent of 2012, and one of the most hated new rappers in recent memory. While some rap critics consider him a hands-down pick for rookie of the year, others insist he can’t rap, or worse, that he's a harmful influence on the culture. Still, his sudden rise from obscurity to superstardom has had a fairytale-like arc. Keef is heading to Las Vegas to film the video for “Hate Being Sober” from his major label debut, Finally Rich; the song, produced by Keef’s go-to Chicago heatmaker Young Chop, has the potential to be a major smash, even without its guest spots from established superstars 50 Cent and Wiz Khalifa. The cost of the shoot is reportedly, at minimum, $30,000. The production stands in stark contrast to the teenage star’s low-budget videos, many of which were shot in his grandmother’s Washington Park apartment. The plan is for today’s shoot to take place in the Nevada desert, about an hour outside of Vegas. 50 Cent has taken a personal interest in the production, hand-picking the video crew. All Keef has to do is show up.

Just under one year earlier, on November 24, 2011, Chief Keef performed his first-ever concert, a surprise appearance in a south suburb of Chicago called Markham, Illinois. The venue was Adrianna’s, a hot spot for both local and touring artists over the past two years. Keef performed four songs from his solo mixtape Bang, including his first viral smash of the same name. His main producer at the time, a Japanese immigrant named DJ Kenn, captured the frenetic show on video. Watching the clip, it was clear that Keef had already become a local superstar to a large subsection of teenagers on Chicago’s South Side. Adrianna’s that night was divided into two different sections by age; during Keef’s performance, one concertgoer estimated that more than 800 kids in the under-21 section were shouting Keef’s lyrics back at him.

Two days later, on November 26, Keef performed his second concert. Initially scheduled for The Harambee House, the show was shut down by police, who were reportedly concerned about Keef’s gang affiliations. His lyrics are full of references and shout-outs to specific sets, cliques and blocks. For many Chicago teens, where you’re from and who you represent is of great significance, particularly in certain South Side neighborhoods. On November 28, videographer D.Gainz published “Aimed At You,” his second collaboration with Chief Keef on his YouTube channel. He described the shoot to Complex earlier this year: “It wasn’t anybody out there when we pulled up [in Chicago’s Englewood neighborhood]. It was just me, him, and his manager Dro. I just remember turning around and hella people came out there all of a sudden, trying to get in the video.” The people he speaks of were mostly school-age kids. “I was seeing the little kids singing and knew the words to the song. They brought a gun, I was like, What the hell? It was crazy to me, and it was like, I wanted people to see what I was seeing.”

A week later, on December 4, Chicago police responded to a report of gunshots in the Washington Park neighborhood. Reportedly, a suspect had pointed a gun at one of the officers.Find detailed product information for howo tractor and other products. Although no one was hurt, Keef was arrested, and false rumors began swirling on Twitter that he had been involved in a shootout with police. He was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. He read about himself from juvenile detention. “You can’t get on the Internet, they block a lot of shit, but somehow I got a little Mac,” he recalled later. He wanted to show his people the performance at Adrianna’s, but it wasn’t easy. “I was maxin’ shit, I got a Mac laptop. Somehow this one let me get on—normally, you type in Google, you can’t get on Google, Bing, Yahoo!, shit!...China plastic moulds manufacturers directory..The term 'hands free access control' means the token that identifies a user is read from within a pocket or handbag. I checked on Facebook it didn’t work, I checked on YouTube, it didn’t work, but it worked on Google and it worked on Twitter. I get on Twitter. I typed in “Chief Keef performs at Adrianna’s”—somehow that article [on Keef’s arrest] came up.”

At the top of 2012, Chief Keef, a 16-year-old high school dropout, was sentenced to 30 days’ house arrest, followed by 30 days of home confinement. In the meantime, his star continued to rise amongst local teens. “Bang” was already the most popular video on D.Gainz’ YouTube channel, and “Aimed At You” was buzzing as well. On January 2, a video of one of his enthusiastic young fans rapping along to “Aimed at You” hit Worldstar Hip Hop. Suddenly, an artist who had been a secret amongst Chicago teenagers was thrown onto a wider stage. Collaborations followed, as Lil B and Soulja Boy reached out to the rapper. Making good use of his house arrest, Keef met demand by completing his Back from the Dead mixtape, which was released on March 12.

Dominoes began to fall. Kanye West remixed his biggest song to that point, the catchy, aggressive “I Don’t Like,” pushing him further into the spotlight.Meanwhile T.I. was calling Keef “the voice of the youth.Manufactures flexible plastic and synthetic rubber hose tubing,” On June 17, it was revealed that Keef had signed to Interscope Records as part of a multi-million-dollar label deal that included film rights and Beats By Keef headphones. His buzz grew louder throughout the year, with “Hate Being Sober”—an over-the-top party anthem featuring one of 50 Cent’s strongest verses in recent memory—promising to be Keef’s big potential crossover moment.

Which brings us back to the video shoot in Vegas. Keef still has not arrived, but he has become a dominant conversational flashpoint. Talking about Keef involves pushing forward tidbits of knowledge like puzzle pieces, as if with enough data, we could possibly comprehend the Keef phenomenon. One Interscope rep reveals that soon after this writer’s Gawker article was published on Keef on March 12, there was a major-label bidding war for the 16-year-old star.

Part of the fascination stems from his mysterious relationship to violence and street culture as well as the epidemic of crime now gripping Chicago. Homicides in the nation’s third-largest city are up 38 percent in 2012, when it was already twice as violent as Los Angeles and three times as deadly as New York. One of the most durable and attractive styles of flooring that you can purchase is ceramic or porcelain tiles. Somehow, Keef has become a poster boy or a scapegoat for all this violence, as if a 17-year-old kid held all the answers. As if stopping his rise from the streets to a successful career would stem the tide of bloodshed.

Oddly enough, one Chicagoan has managed to make it to his Vegas gig; former Bears legend Dick Butkus is signing autographs on the Forum’s first floor. The spectacle of the Forum, like much of Vegas, has a perverse beauty, considering it is more or less a glorified shopping mall, with stores for virtually every designer brand represented. Vegas might be a timeworn metaphor for America, and it’s already a notorious locale in hip-hop. But the garish proximity between the glamorous decadence and the hopeless desperation feels particularly apropos.

By 3 p.m., word comes down that Keef has missed his flight again, and won’t be arriving until around 6 p.m. The camera crew, 50 Cent, and Wiz Khalifa have been waiting on his arrival for hours. The shoot in the desert is scrapped, and if any production will happen tonight, it will take place in the evening, at a location not far from the gleaming Vegas strip, as soon as Keef arrives.

An Irishwoman's Diary

THE 19th-century Irish polymath committed to antiquarianism meets the 20th-century cosmopolitan specialist in the imaginative and pragmatic genius of Frank Mitchell, who was born 100 years ago.

As the first professor of quaternary studies at Trinity College, Dublin,A stone mosaic stands at the spot of assasination of the late Indian prime minister. Mitchell, best known for his classic Reading the Irish Landscape, a geologically-based survey of Ireland, was a career geologist, a founder member of An Taisce, a president of the Royal Irish Academy, an inspirational teacher and the straight-talking, drily witty son of a Dublin hardware merchant.

A modern day version of Sir William Wilde, Mitchell was a thinker who in a society of talkers was adept at getting things done.

In a time of increasingly narrow specialisation, he consistently demonstrated that it is possible to combine specialist knowledge with a multidisciplinary overview, drawing together geology, botany, zoology,Largest gemstone beads and jewelry making supplies at wholesale prices. geography and archaeology, as well as intellectual daring and commonsense. Eventually Mitchell, precise as ever, would describe himself as a landscape archaeologist. His extraordinary essay Where Has Ireland Come From?, published when he was 82, was based on a 13-part radio lecture series conducted in the form of a dialogue in which Mitchell leads a team of geologist and naturalists perched upon a magic carpet, through 1,700 million years of geological history. The starting point is Inishtrahull, a tiny island north-west of the Inishowen,A stone mosaic stands at the spot of assasination of the late Indian prime minister. Co Donegal coast and host to Ireland’s oldest-known rock.

Mitchell the naturalist came of age at 11 when he set off to the Natural History Museum. There he met the first of his mentors, Arthur Wilson Stelfox (1883-1972), a museum curator who was also an entomologist. He noticed the boy studying the displays of native Irish birds. Stelfox bred snails in his garage and attempted to interest the young Mitchell in insects,Find detailed product information for Low price howo tipper truck and other products. but the boy was intent on birds. In 1926, through Stelfox, Mitchell, then 13, joined a party of amateur naturalists who had come over from England to explore a cave in Co Waterford. His formative experiences as a member of the Dublin Naturalists’ Field Club left him with a lifelong belief in field work.

He was born in Dublin on October 15th, 1912, the middle of three children, his sister Helen Lillias (1916-2000), would become an arts and crafts artist much in the tradition of the Yeats sisters; while his elder brother David became a doctor. It was Mitchell’s mother, not Frank, who decided that he would go to Trinity. On arrival there in 1930 he chose English and French but was quickly discouraged by an arrogant French lecturer – Samuel Beckett. Mitchell abandoned the arts and turned to his passion, the natural sciences.

Although disappointed that more time was spent in the lab than the field, he did well and was awarded a first class honours degree in 1934. The then newly appointed professor of geology, Louis Bouvier Smyth, who knew Mitchell through the Dublin Naturalists’ Field Club, suggested that Mitchell specialise in geology – and he became Smyth’s assistant. By 1940 Mitchell was a lecturer in geology. Four years later he began attending archaeology lectures at UCD given by the then recently appointed professor of archaeology, Seán ó Riordáin. Yet Mitchell’s multidisciplinary methodology was already well evolved.

Years earlier in 1934, Mitchell, then only 21, had, through Tony Farrington of the Royal Irish Academy, worked with an invited team headed by Knud Jessen, then professor of botany at the University of Copenhagen. The project was based at Ballybetagh bog in the Dublin mountains. A subsequent Jessen visit would be recorded by Robert Lloyd Praeger in The Way That I Went (1937). Praeger’s classic, which charts a somewhat random account of travelling through Ireland would later inspire Mitchell’s response, The Way That I Followed (1990), a more methodical narrative. His life was closely bound to Trinity College. The college had purchased the Townley Hall estate, situated on the Slane Road to Drogheda, near historic Oldbridge, in 1956.Find detailed product information for howo tractor and other products. Included in the property was Francis Johnston’s classical mansion designed in 1794. It was to be used as an agricultural research centre. Community Extra: Calendar

THE television screen turns into a static charge of salt and pepper hiss. If you have the patience to linger to find out why, without instantly switching to another channel,Find detailed product information for Sinotruk howo truck. you will eventually learn that this is what is in store for you if you are living in one of the four metros; if you are served by cable, not DTH (direct to home); and if you do not put in place that digital set-top box by the end of October. It is a portentous public interest advertisement which serves notice on an analogue media era and prepares to usher in the digital-only realm of television viewing.

It is part of building the momentum, in the wake of the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Amendment Act of 2011, towards a total changeover to digital distribution via cable in four stages: the four metros by October 31 this year; cities with a population of over a million by March 31, 2013; all other urban centres by the end of September 2014; and the rest of the country by the end of the calendar year 2014. The conversion is both a legal and a technological imperative. Digitise or perish is the writing on the wall. You are damned if you do not.

It is not as self-evident, though, that you’re not damned if you do. The democratic logic of digitisation is better, cheaper, more equitable access and choice for the consumer. The analogue hierarchy of a clutch of channels on prime band that register effulgent clarity in picture and sound followed by a longish tail of poor and poorer cousins on the less and lesser bands with inferior, even indifferent, visual and audio quality is, in the digital mode, replaced by a qualitative constant across the board where the look and feel of each channel directly reflect the production input and values of its content and there is no distribution diffusion. That would be the one obvious change and would itself certainly make the difference between night and day for those yet stuck with analogue signals.

But the investments required for the digital rollout and spread, the high-end consumerist appetites and values they privilege, and the sheer scale of the operation put the business of digital cable networking out of the league and out of the reach of the small- or medium-scale entrepreneur. This new regime in the media sector, as much as the policy and the law that propel it, is made to order for digital capitalism.

The fat cats of the business have already begun to parse the law to suit their rapacity, but are couching it in terms of the best interests of the consumer. The path to digitisation is paved with their good intentions. A recent conclave on Media and Entertainment Business organised by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) in Chennai revealed, to mix metaphors, their itchy palms in velvet gloves. In a panel discussion on opportunities in the digitised era, the participants, who were among the major stakeholders from the content and distribution side of the industry,Klaus Multiparking is an industry leader in innovative parking system technology. seemed in no doubt that the raison d’etre of digitisation was consolidation and vertical integration of their businesses. There was a queer money-minded nostalgia for the business advantages of the analogue market being left behind, even as they scrambled to take over the digital El Dorado of the future. They would, if they could, have the best of both worlds, analogue and digital.

And so, while they are agreed that digitisation would enable upscaled quality, they are even more agreed that consumers must be prepared to pay more for it; and we naively thought digital meant lower costs.A stone mosaic stands at the spot of assasination of the late Indian prime minister.Purelink's real time location system protect healthcare workers in their daily practices and OMEGA interventions. The revenue model in digital cable networks is, typically, subscription driven so that advertisements do not hog and clutter airtime. But there is a clear reluctance to part with advertisement revenues, and the upshot may well be that even as we pay more we will continue to be subject to long stretches of commercials interrupting programmes (as the witticism goes, a programme on television is what happens between advertisements).

Then there is the question of carriage fees, which acquires critical importance in a situation where, more than ever before, how to get to be seen is the despair of every new television channel. Thanks to digitisation, the bandwidth required for one analogue transponder or channel is compressed to spin off five or six new ones, making the transponder the least—from the most—expensive component in the outlay for a new channel. But with so many channels (there are over 600 on air now and as many or more awaiting licences) jostling with one another for distribution, and with no norms or rules in place, the big multi service operators (MSOs), like their DTH counterparts, have been charging exorbitant and whimsical carriage fees, skewing the field strongly in favour of the big media corporations which can cough up such amounts, with hefty additional premiums for prime placements. Those who cannot afford this are left out in the cold,Our vinyl floor tiles is more stylish than ever! and there are so many instances of new channels having to repeatedly delay their launch because of this acute distribution squeeze that the whole process seems ridiculously weighed against the small and medium players.

This tape obviously cannot be Anthony Karbo’s

How could you even suggest that it was Anthony Karbo spewing forth that nonsense on the tape? Have you forgotten the hand of Esau but the voice of Jacob in the Bible? Readers will recall a programme aired on TV3 (I have forgotten the title) in which actors mimicked their mentors and pretended they were the real persons speaking. The programme was won by the person who mimicked the voice of Rawlings. Readers will at the same time recall that the person who acted as Nana Addo also played his role very well and at a stage, it was very difficult to decide which of the two was mimicking the voice and mannerism of his mentor better than the other.

Do Felix Ofosu Kwakye and his so called Research Advocacy Platform want to tell us that if one goes round the country, one is not likely to come across two persons whose voices sound alike? Two of my brothers have similar voices and when you speak to one of them on the phone, it will be very difficult to determine which of the two is speaking. On many occasions, I have mistaken one for the other.

The scoundrels who authored the tape are indeed imbeciles. Wait and I will tell you why. They have acted like demented “malu” (cows) being led to the slaughter house. And since they have decided to shed off their human skin for that of animals, and not even better ones, they deserve no better treatment.

I am going to point out the “illogicalities” and arrogant stupidities in the fabricated lies being presented to intelligent and a much more discernining Ghanaian audience as facts and truths. Indeed they may appear as truths and facts to them because they have been indoctrinated to pander to the needs of their paymasters who are master in the act of Group mind manipulation.Selecting the best rtls solution is a challenging task as there is no global solution like GPS. By the time the scales fall off their eyes, it will be too late. Permit me to say that the fabricators of this phantom tape couldn’t have been born by any human being but beasts from the lowest abyss who unlike human beings breed their younger ones as animals are want to.

Four thinWe mainly supply professional craftspeople with wholesale agate beads from china,gs are obviously not right or logical. On the tape we hear the voice purporting to be that of Karbo telling his unseen audience that he would bring a group of bad boys from Libya,Gardner Bender offers a broad range of cableties, Benin, Togo and Liberia. At a stage, there is the mannerism of err… emm… as if the person is unsure of himself or which country he wanted to mention.

One let us interrogate other speeches by Karbo to see whether he has such notable mannerisms.
Again, let those ignoramuses who take Ghanaians for fools answer these pertinent questions.Find detailed product information for howo spareparts and other products. First which Government “rescued” Ghanaians from Libya during the crises? NDC Government! And do you think the people so rescued would turn their back on a government which had gone to their assistance at the most precarious period of their lives? Or was he suggesting he would recruit mercenaries from Libya to come and fight in Ghana? You see how infantile the brains of such desperados could be at times!

Such puerile argument is similar to the allegations that it was members of the UP tradition who gave the parcel bomb to the little girl to be given to the late President Dr Kwame Nkrumah when he arrived at Kulungugu. How do you allow an opposition party to be in charge of protocol when the life of the President is at stake? How do the bad boys from Libya arrive in the country without detection? How do they get to Ghana? By road, air or sea?

Again he talks about recruiting bad boys from Togo and Benin Republic to come and cause mayhem with their counterparts from Libya. How do those boys get to Ghana? By road through the Volta Region? They forget the fact that the Region is the strong hold of the ruling party and it will be almost impossible for a group of mercenaries to go through the long stretch of land in the Volta Region without detection.

Moreover it is getting to election period and any such Group movement by people will attract suspicion. This, the Felix Ofosu Kwakye and his perpetrators of such heinous crime never thought of that.

Again, let’s shift our attention to the so-called bad boys from Liberia. Do they think they will be so na?ve and stupid as perpetrators would want to portray to the whole world? Does the NDC not use pictures of atrocities committed in war torn countries like Liberia, Kenya,Find detailed product information for Low price howo tipper truck and other products. Nigeria, Angola and the Congo to illustrate how hatred and mercenary activities could bring a country to its knees? The Liberians have tasted war and know of its harmful effects. Some of them have become refugees in other people’s lands. Does Felix Ofosu Kwakye in the wildest dream imaginable think Liberians would allow themselves to be used in such a dangerous enterprise again?

You see, Felix Ofosu Kwakye and members of his desperately assembled confused androids exhibited their shallow mindedness in their hurriedly arranged press release.

Then comes the mother of all revelations, and it is that Karbo talks of using the bad boys to attack State Institutions like the Police, Electoral Commission, the BNI and the Military. You see how senseless a group of people could degenerate into when defeat stares them right in the face. Hatred for the NPP and Ghanaians has permeated all their sense of reasoning so much so that they cannot for a moment think right.
How could someone think of attacking the Police to talk more of the Military? What weapons do they have to be able to carry out such offences against soldiers and policemen who are trained to turn their guns on harmless civilians? Ofosu Kwakye and his doom mongers might suggest that Karbo and the NPP have piled up arms and ammunition at a secret location. If that is so, it shows that the NDC regime has negated one of its cardinal responsibilities against mother Ghana and should step down immediately.

Do you envisage what would happen if one military installation is attacked? When someone molests one of their own members, what do the Police of Military do? They mobilize their other colleagues and move in to attack. Anthony Karbo has to be a member of Boko Haram or Al-Qaida to be able to perpetrate such senseless atrocities.

What would Karbo and others gain by such senseless destruction of lives and property if they went ahead and carry them out? Obviously there are likely casualties in a backlash that will result. No person of sane mind would undertake such a dangerous act and expect to come out alive. Assuming Karbo carries out such reckless act and is killed in the process (which is what exactly would happen) what will be his gain? Why should they attempt it in the first place?

Nobody these days carries out such senseless act and goes scot free. The International War Tribunal is there to make any criminal pay for his action. If Presidents of European and other countries could be indicted, arrested, tried and sentenced, what wouldn’t they do to a mere national youth organizer of an opposition party?

Unprecedented 'black mold' meningitis a challenge

The black mold creeping into the spines of hundreds of people who got tainted shots for back pain marks uncharted medical territory.

Never before has this particular fungus been found to cause meningitis. It's incredibly hard to diagnose, and to kill requiring at least three months of a treatment that can cause hallucinations. There's no good way to predict survival, or when it's safe to stop treating, or exactly how to monitor those who fear the fungus may be festering silently in their bodies.

"I don't think there is a precedent for this kind of thing," said Dr. Arjun Srinivasan of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Health officials and doctors have tracked down most of the 14,000 people potentially at risk for fungal meningitis, blamed for the deaths of 24 people and sickening more than 300.

"This is definitely new territory for us," he said.

The fungus' brown-black color signals an armor that along with being injected near the spine —helped this mold sneak past the immune defenses of otherwise healthy people, said Dr. Arturo Casadevall, a fungal disease specialist at New York's Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

"What we're dealing with here is fundamentally different" from a typical fungal infection, he said.China plastic moulds manufacturers directory. "This is a bug that most of us don't know much about."

But they're learning fast, piecing together clues that promise some hope.

Doctors are beginning to detail in medical journals the first deaths in this outbreak, and the grim autopsy findings make clear that treating early is crucial, before the fungus becomes entrenched. In one case, a woman died in Maryland after the fungus pierced blood vessels in her brain, leading to severe damage.

People getting treated earlier "seem to be doing OK," with fewer of the strokes that characterized the outbreak's beginning, said Dr. Carol Kauffman of the University of Michigan. She has advised the CDC and co-authored advice in the New England Journal of Medicine on how to handle the complex medication used in treatment.

People who got contaminated steroid shots made by a Massachusetts pharmacy have been told to be on guard for months for meningitis symptoms. But the CDC said Wednesday that the biggest risk for getting sick seems to be within 42 days of receiving one of the implicated back injections.

With the tainted shots recalled in late September, that means the period of greatest risk is nearing an end.Find detailed product information for Sinotruk howo truck. And it should help doctors bombarded with calls from the worried determine who most needs a spinal tap to look for the very earliest signs of infection.

"We know the farther out you are from receiving an injection, the lower your risk becomes for developing meningitis or other infections. We want to emphasize that," CDC's Dr. Tom Chiller told a conference call for physicians on Thursday.

Still, public health officials recall a 2002 meningitis cluster linked to steroid injections contaminated with a different fungus; one of those victims got sick 152 days after the shot.

Fungal infections don't get a lot of attention, but they afflict millions around the world, said David Perlin of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, who is studying better ways to diagnose them.We are pleased to offer the following list of professional mold maker and casters. Most are skin infections like athlete's foot, but fungi also can cause pneumonia, sinusitis and other problems.

Serious infections tend to strike people with immune systems weakened because of cancer, AIDS or other problems. Fungus-caused meningitis in particular is extremely rareespecially in otherwise healthy people like in this outbreak and it's "very bad news," said Michigan's Kauffman.

While the more common bacterial and viral forms of meningitis tend to strike quickly with obvious symptoms, fungal meningitis grows very slowly and is hard to diagnose. Few antifungal drugs are absorbed into the central nervous system, limiting treatment options. Plus, human cells and fungal cells have a lot of similarities, making it hard to attack the fungus without side effects, Kauffman explained.

The main culprit in this outbreak is a black mold called Exserohilum rostratum, common in dirt and grasses. Only 33 human infections previously had been reported, mostly eye or skin infections in people with weak immune systems, Casadevall said.

Here's how scientists think it's sneaking into the well-guarded spinal cord and brain of a healthy person:

The steroid injected near the spine reduces inflammation,Manufactures flexible plastic and synthetic rubber hose tubing, one of the immune system's defenses against contamination.

The mold grows quietly until enough accumulates for it to burrow a tiny hole, or abscess, into the lining of the spinal canal, said Dr. William Schaffner of Vanderbilt University. Reaching the spinal fluid inside offers a direct pathway to the brain.

The fungus' color signals how intractable it is. Brown-black molds produce melanin, the same chemical that helps human skin tan. It guards against the sun's mold-killing ultraviolet rays and inside people, it fends off both antifungal drugs and other immune-system attacks, Casadevall said.

The good news: Black mold is treatable with a drug named voriconazole, with far fewer side effects than the older treatment initially recommended when the outbreak began.

Still, Kauffman cautioned doctors to carefully monitor patients because differences in metabolism can make levels surge in the bloodstream, causing hallucinations, confusion, nausea and occasionally liver damage. On the flip side, their bodies may process the drug too quickly to battle the fungus. Plus, voriconazole can interact badly with a list of other common medications.

"It's not clear" how long to treat but at least three months is advised, Kauffman said. It begins with intravenous infusions that are hard to administer outside of a hospital. Then once the patient is stable enough,One of the most durable and attractive styles of flooring that you can purchase is ceramic or porcelain tiles. pills can be used.

Windows 8 has now been around in public beta form for so long that it ought to be known and polished - unfortunately for Microsoft, it seems actually to be largely misunderstood and still, in little places, painfully imperfect.

So, many will be familiar with the idea of the software's new interface - a patchwork of 'live tiles' is the default new Start screen, replacing the Start menu; pinch to zoom in or out in a new function called 'semantic zoom'. That means items are tailored to look appropriate to the scale you're seeing them at,The TagMaster Long Range hands free access System is truly built for any parking facility. rather than just bigger or littler. And as that 'pinch to zoom' suggests, this is a new interface designed for tablets - and mobile phones - and which works with a really pleasing elegance on a touchscreen. Swipe the right of the screen to bring up that standard menu to search, share or adjust settings, called charms; the left cycles you through open applications and the bottom brings up contextual menus. Almost all of this is a joy to use.

That said, it is so different from what people have become accustomed to with Windows 7, Windows 8 is hard to compare. Is it an improvement? Definitely. Will people simply get cross? Possibly. Built in to Windows 8 is essentially all of Windows 7, hidden under a 'Desktop' tile. That means users can still run all the old software they're used to, from Adobe Photoshop to Apple iTunes. If you don't need all that, you can buy a tablet such as Microsoft's own Surface, which runs a cut down version of Windows 8 called Windows RT, but includes Word, Excel and PowerPoint. What it lacks is a decent mail client, but Microsoft says one will be along soon.Allows you to securely organize any group of cable ties or wires.

Some critics have suggested that constantly flipping back and forwards between Windows 8's new interface and the more familiar one is a huge pain. In my extensive use of the software, I quickly found that it became a conspicuous compromise,If you want to read about buy mosaic in a non superficial way that's the perfect book. but not an inconvenience. More importantly,This document provides a guide to using the ventilation system in your house to provide adequate fresh air to residents. however, I was aware that what few true tablet apps there were largely offered excellent functionality. The forthcoming version of Office, for instance, features proper adaptations to, say, PowerPoint, that make it a lot more intuitive. For now, moving between different styles of interface is simply a fact of life, made all the more painful that good tablet apps are so much better in Windows 8 than desktop hangovers.

Where it did get annoying, however, was when, for instance, the keyboard didn't always appear in touchscreen mode - it can always be summoned manually, but that's not the point - or when there's such a painful lack of search options in some apps and such an extensive ability in others. Microsoft's idea is that you don't need to worry so much about filing - as in Gmail - but it'll never work until all apps are equal. That day will probably come sooner than we suspect; Adobe's Photoshop offers an excellent version for Android tablets already. But it underlines that Microsoft has had to take a leap here. It offers a whole new computing paradigm, but forces you to also use the old one at the same time.

Nonetheless, Windows 8 should do well - it is an operating system rethought from the ground up, and integrates touch right into its very heart. Those live tiles are superb windows on the world behind them, allowing you to see your latest emails or your friends' latest posts to Facebook at a convenient glance. Swiping between applications feels sophisticated in a way that previously only Apple has managed to achieve.

If, however, you have an existing PC that doesn’t have a touchscreen, Windows 8 is more of an enticement to buy a new one than it is a reason to upgrade. And if you’re thinking of upgrading, the new Surface is a beautiful device but it’s one that lacks basic functions because it doesn’t run the full version of Windows. In many ways, it serves to underline how vital Intel is to Windows’ success, and the Surface with Intel inside may yet be the most compelling device available when it arrives in January. If you are going to buy a Windows 8 device now, I would recommend either a touchscreen ultrabook such as those by Asus with the Zenbook, or a convertible such as those by Dell, Sony or Lenovo which let you use it as both a tablet and a laptop.

Blade modular turbine wins Husum award

Skywind GmbH,Gecko could kickstart an indoor tracking mobile app explosion. a recent wind turbine manufacturer, was honored with the Windalliance Technology Award at the just completed Husum 2012 exhibition. This prize is an international award given to honor outstanding innovation in wind energy. Skywind received the award for their innovative 3.4-MW modular prototype turbine that allows for a new generation of turbine component testing, and eventually, a lower cost to wind energy.

A jury of four experts honored the Rendsburg (Schleswig-Holstein) based company. The company wins advertising and exhibition space at Hannover Messe 2013 and HUSUM WindEnergy 2014 to the value of €30,000.

New components for wind turbines are usually tested on a supplier’s test benches or at research establishments, which can only approach real operating conditions. The development honored here has created a modular test turbine in the multi-megawatt range with which manufacturers can test their products under real conditions. The wind turbine has a modular design which enables the main components – such as gears,An indoor positioning system (IPS) is a term used for a network of devices used to wirelessly locate objects or people inside a building. generators and main bearings – to be separately controlled, exchanged and tested during operation. This means it is possible to install components and very varied drive concepts from different manufacturers into the system without the need for cost-intensive customisation work. “Unique, ambitious and revolutionary”

The tower of the 3.4-MW system also serves as a crane. This means the turbine can be erected at not easily accessible locations with little effort, which also further reduces costs. For example, less clearing is required at high-altitude wooded sites, and also less transport effort and costs. The first test turbine is to be erected in summer 2013, prior to series production.

“SkyWind’s overall concept is unique, ambitious, and revolutionary”, said juror Alois Schaffarczyk, professor of mathematics and engineering mechanics at Kiel University of Applied Science. The four-person jury was unanimous in its decision to award the prize to SkyWind. “The concept is a milestone in cost reduction. We hope that our decision will give the wind industry motivation to develop further creative cost reduction solutions.”

In addition to SkyWind, the other nominated businesses, Münster-based Kenersys Europe and HOCHTIEF Solutions, represented by its centres of excellence for offshore wind and tunnel construction in Hamburg and Essen, presented their innovations to the public at the award ceremony in Husum,

For blades, the company turned to Global Blade Technology. GBT and Skywind inked the contract for designing blades for this innovative two-bladed turbine in September 2011. GBT was able to offer a fully-integrated blade solution that includes the design and production the molds, tooling, and prototypes needed for blade certification, as well as turbine testing and qualification.Find detailed product information for howo tractor 6x4 and other products.

The production of these blades will start in January 2013, just 15 months after the contract was signed, in an offshore facility in Emden in northern Germany. GBT says its integrated blade system delivers everything from blade design to production, in a short period.

“The SkyWind 52-m blade stands as a highly optimized design, with a balance between aero, loads, and structures,” says Mark Klaassen, GBT’s lead blade design engineer for the project.

State-of-the-art multi body simulation software (SIMPACK) was used to generate loads. Thanks to this software, lower loads were realized which resulted in a light, durable, and cost-effective blade. The MaxSonar ultrasonic sensor offers very short to long-range detection and ranging. GBT uses advanced design tools such as Ansys and FOCUS 6 in combination with tools developed in-house to shorten development time.“We are getting ready for production and although we are only building prototypes, six-sigma methods will be followed,” says Klaassen. The stone mosaic comes in shiny polished and matte.

104 new parking lots for Kumbh

Anticipating crores of visitors including 60,000 foreigners to the city during Mahakumbh, the Kumbh mela authorities have proposed setting up of 104 parking lots across the city to accommodate the rush.

According to the plan, 36 parking lots would come up at Parade area, while 36 would be set up at Jhunsi and 32 at Arial area. Officials said after identifying the land for parking, works like leveling of ground, development of approach lane, adequate lighting facility, flex boards at both entry and exit points, and drinking water facilities would be provided to people looking for parking space during Mahakumbh.Gecko could kickstart an indoor tracking mobile app explosion.

Besides, police assistance booths would be set up at every parking lot and there would be separate toilet facilities for male and female visitors. Additional District Magistrate (ADM), Kumbh, Ashutosh Kumar Dwivedi told TOI, "Apart from maintenance of civic amenities, public address (PA) system would also be installed at each and every parking. There would also be help desk that will give them information about topography of sangam area. Our vinyl floor tiles is more stylish than ever!"

Trained and experienced traffic cops would be deputed at the parking lots, he said. This Mahakumbh, the traffic police department has already sought latest traffic equipment like 1800 mobile barriers, recovery vehicles, 350 safety bar torches, 150 loud hailers, 700 helmets, 1300 gas masks, 1,300 ropes, and 1200 florescent jackets and gloves to control the sea of crowd and streamline traffic. The traffic police authorities have also planned to set up at least three traffic police lines at Parade, Arail,Thank you for visiting! I have been crystal mosaic since 1998. and Jhunsi area for the purpose.

It has also be decided that if the rush is bigger than expected during the main bathing days, the police forces would cover up to 100 kilometers of the borders where special parking lots would be developed. The authorities have also sought 25 Recovery vehicles with an objective to tow away broken down vehicles for streamlining traffic. Moreover, adequate strength of traffic policemen including 11 traffic inspectors, 45 traffic sub-inspectors, 150 traffic head constables and 800 traffic constables would be deployed in and around Sangam area for traffic and parking management.

The British Parking Association (BPA) has backed calls to beef up regulations in a bid to stop former clampers using heavy-handed tactics as they switch to ticketing.A wide range of polished tiles for your tile flooring and walls. This comes after the Daily Echo launched its Fair Deal for Drivers campaign, which calls for a clampdown on firms that are unfairly targeting drivers in Hampshire. The BPA,Quickparts builds injection molds using aluminum or steel to meet your program. which has more than 150 members, said it is calling on the Department for Transport to make it compulsory for all parking firms to sign up to a national code of conduct. BPA chief executive Patrick Troy said: “The ban on clamping and towing away without lawful authority means it is still possible for so-called ‘rogue ticketers’ to operate throughout the UK, causing distress to motorists.

“We would like to see better regulation of the private parking sector than the coalition Government has offered.”

He also said that all parking firms should be forced to join the BPA. “Currently membership of the BPA, the industry’s professional body, is an ‘opt in’ system and this needs to change so that all motorists are treated fairly and there are legal repercussions for operators who decide not to sign up.”

Shining light on Emory's 'reign of terror' prompts

Sixteen years after Susan Shulman Tessel lost her father, she sat on a Southern college campus Wednesday night and couldn't stop thinking about him.Find detailed product information for Sinotruk howo truck. Surrounded by hundreds in a packed ballroom, she cried because he was missing. He should have been there with her and her mother.Find detailed product information for Sinotruk howo truck. He deserved to be.

The late Irving Shulman was the only Jewish man to enter Emory University’s School of Dentistry in 1948. That was the same year someone else came to the school: the newly appointed dean, John E. Buhler.

After one academic year, Shulman flunked out. Buhler stayed on for 13 years, leading what some Jewish students would refer to as a “reign of terror.” Between 1948 and 1961, when Buhler left, 65% of Jewish students either failed out or were forced to repeat up to two years of coursework in the four-year program.

Those who lasted often paid. There were insults from professors such as “dirty Jew,” accusations by faculty of cheating and questions from the dean like, “Why do you Jews want to be dentists? You don't have it in your hands. The oreck XL professional air purifier,”

His daughter, who lives in New York, heard him tell stories about the constant reminders of how awful he was. His molds of teeth – which he was so proud of – would either get crushed by hands or grades. Convinced he wasn't being treated fairly, a non-Jewish classmate agreed to turn in one of Shulman's molds under his name. Shulman's handiwork earned that student an A-minus.

Her late father gave up his dentistry dream and moved on to pharmacy school. But, she said, being at Emory last week would have helped him make sense of what had transpired. That's when 19 former Jewish dental students who had experienced that era came together and finally received the apology and recognition they had never thought possible.

Three years after Shulman was dubbed a failure at the end of his first academic year, Perry Brickman got his surprise letter from the dean telling him the same. Unlike Shulman, though, he had never been told he wasn't doing well.

Stunned. Embarrassed. Brickman was both. But he wasn't beaten down enough to give up on dentistry and was accepted to the dental school at the University of Tennessee, where he graduated fourth in his class. He would go on to have a 43-year career as a respected oral surgeon in Atlanta. He knew he was no failure. He also knew he wasn't alone. He was one of four Jewish men who entered the school in 1951; two years later they were all gone.

Brickman, 79, wasn't one to bring up the past. In 2000, he went to a reunion of his Jewish fraternity brothers from their Emory undergrad days. It turned out eight of the men in the room had been scarred by the same dental program, but it's not something they talked about. Brickman's wife, Shirley, would later start calling the former dental students “a fraternity of silence.”

A month before one man got his degree,Our vinyl floor tiles is more stylish than ever!Find detailed product information for Low price howo tipper truck and other products. he was forced to stand before the dean and assembled faculty for an hourlong dressing down. Later, one of the professors pulled the student aside and apologized, saying he had a wife and children to think about and had no choice but to play along.

Another said the day he got his diploma he felt like he'd been released from prison. A third repeated what a professor used to call him, "my little black sheep,” and then, bothered by the memory, muttered under his breath, “son of a bitch.”

These men said they were the "lucky" ones; the ones who actually made it through to earn degrees from the school. The 39 Jews who Brickman said enrolled during the Buhler era were all men; few women attended the school back then. Of that bunch, a dozen flunked out. Only three of those 12 became dentists. At least 15 of the Jewish dental students who lasted were forced to repeat coursework – and in some cases a year or two of study.

Art Burns, 80, of Jacksonville, Florida, flunked out in 1953 but went on to be first in his class at Temple University's dental school. The retired orthodontist recalled later bumping into the Emory dean in an Army base dental lab. Buhler looked at him and said, “Burns, I'd recognize that nose anywhere.”
